Introducing the new Xdrive® Desktop Lite beta

This new lightweight application utilizes Adobe® AIR™ technology, which allows you to easily upload files and folders right from your hard drive, desktop, USB devices, or removable storage drives directly into your Xdrive web storage.

Xdrive Desktop Lite gives you the power to easily manage and organize all of your documents, photos, music, videos and more in your personal online hard drive.

Set up new folders to organize those pictures of your kids and friends.
Make extra copies of those tax documents.
Upload your music files so they’re available to you from anywhere, no more CD cases.

Start by installing Adobe® AIR ™

Just click on the link to the right to begin installation. Follow the prompts to install or update Adobe® AIR ™ as well as Xdrive Desktop Lite.

Next, install Xdrive Desktop Lite

Launch it from your start menu or desktop icon.

By downloading this software, you are agreeing electronically to the terms of this AOL software end user agreement. If you do not agree to this license, do not download, install, copy, or use the software.

You will be alerted whenever new features are available. These new features can be installed with the included automatic updater, removing the need to download a new version every time a new feature is made available.

Once you’ve logged into Xdrive Desktop Lite, everything you have in your Xdrive account will be shown in the upper portion of the window, while your local files and folders will occupy the lower portion.

Want to upload a file or folder? Simply drag it from your local drive to the desired Xdrive folder, and it will be automatically added to your upload queue and begin transferring. Check the upload/download progress via Transfers section of the interface.

With Xdrive Desktop Lite, moving files to and from your Xdrive account has never been easier.

Now that you have all of these files in your Xdrive web storage, what are you going to do with them? While your Xdrive account is a perfect place to store your files for backup, you can also use Xdrive Desktop Lite to share permissible files with your family, friends, or colleagues. Through email, embedded players, or direct hyperlinks to the content, sharing is a breeze with Xdrive Desktop Lite.

Automatic updates will allow the Xdrive team to provide a constant flow of product enhancements to our users. Here is a sampling of what we’re planning for upcoming releases:

Synchronize between local files and those stored in your Xdrive account: Made a change to a local file? Xdrive Desktop Lite will automatically upload the new version to your Xdrive account so you always have the latest version available from anywhere you have an internet connection.
In addition to a wide range of enhancements to the Xdrive Desktop Lite client, the Adobe® AIR™ platform will allow us to present virtually all of the desktop functionality in a robust web application.

Please note: At this time, you can only register for the Xdrive service with an AOL or AIM screen name. However, if you would like to use an existing e-mail address as your Xdrive user name, you may register through our related product, Bluestring, at www.bluestring.com. Once you have completed the registration process, just come back to Xdrive and log in with that e-mail address.
